Our Founder

Robert E. Whitaker Sr., Founder

Founded in 1970 by Robert E. Whitaker Sr., Whitaker Corporation has grown into a leading Christian publishing and distribution company. Today, the corporation includes Whitaker House, a premier Christian book publisher, and Anchor Distributors, a full-service book distribution and fulfillment company. The organization also operates several imprints and publishing partnerships, including Whitaker Espanol, ShopTheWord, Word Alive, and AnchorUP, providing comprehensive resources for Christian bookstores, retailers, and booksellers nationwide.

Whitaker House, now one of the most respected Christian book publishers in the industry, began almost by accident in the 1960s. Robert Whitaker Sr., a former electrical sales representative, experienced a profound physical and spiritual healing that transformed his life. Moved by this transformation, he felt called to share his faith and began distributing Christian books, starting with David Wilkerson's influential work, The Cross and the Switchblade.

What started as a garage-based book distribution operation quickly expanded when Russ Bixler, CEO of Cornerstone Television and a fellow member of the Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship International (where Whitaker Sr. served as chapter president), approached Whitaker about publishing and distributing his book It Can Happen to Anybody. This partnership marked the beginning of Whitaker Corporation's journey into Christian book publishing and distribution.

Following appearances on the 700 Club and Cornerstone TV, Whitaker Corporation experienced significant growth. The increased visibility attracted new Christian authors seeking publishing services and opened doors to major book distribution opportunities. Working alongside his sons Robert Jr. and John, Whitaker Sr. transformed the company into one of the Christian publishing industry's most respected publishing houses. Today, Whitaker Corporation operates a state-of-the-art warehouse and fulfillment center in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area, serving Christian bookstores, churches, ministries, and retailers across North America.
